NAPSA’s Christopher Lalusha Wins Prestigious TICONA ICT Professional of the Year Award

Christopher Lalusha, Director of Information Communication Technology (ICT) at the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and a Fellow of the Information and Communications Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Technology Information Confederation Africa (TICONA) ICT Professional of the Year.

Lalusha was on Friday announced as the winner at an awards ceremony held at Sarova White Sands Hotel in Mombasa, Kenya at a gathering of ICT professionals drawn from the IT industry, policy makers and academicians from 30 countries.

ICTAZ Chief executive officer Chellah Silavwe disclosed that the the ICT Professional of the Year award acknowledges individuals who excel in ICT, stay abreast of the latest developments, and maintain ethical standards, serving as industry role models.

Mr Silavwe noted that the award was testimony to Zambia’s high standing in the area of IT professionalism and technology innovation even in the face of challenges related to cyber security, climate change, and economic growth.

He said Mr Lalusha’s contributions to the ICT sector had drawn continent-wide acknowledgement due to his demonstrated skills in spearheading IT solutions and systems that were optimising business functions and promoting the uptake of information technology.

Mr Lalusha stood out from a field of six other distinguished finalists representing Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda, and Malawi.

“Mr Lalusha’s achievement is a testament to his outstanding contributions to the ICT sector in Zambia and beyond. His works, particularly in advancing digital transformation and enhancing digital access across the country, has earned him this recognition on a continental stage,” Mr Silavwe said.

“ICTAZ is proud of the achievement, especially that the recognition is a reflection of the high calibre of professionals within the association and underscores Zambia’s growing influence in the ICT sector beyond the country’s borders.This award is a clear demonstration of the strong level of professionals that ICTAZ has as an association, and Zambia at large.”

The TICON Africa Conference is an annual ICT event that brings together industry thought leaders from across the continent and beyond. Held under the theme Advancing ICT Solutions for Sustainable Development in Africa,  several Zambian professionals also participated in panel discussions and made presentations on the integration of digital technology in government agencies and commercial entities.

The Electronic Government Division (Smart Zambia) national coordinator, Mr. Percy Chinyama, ICTAZ president Dr Clement Sinyangwe, SMART Zambia Director Digital Government Services Mulombo Hameja, Zanaco Chief Information Officer Joseph Shiku, Zambia Revenue Authority Assistant Director Systems Development and Implementation Christopher Kabamba and NAPSA ICT Director Christopher Lalusha were amongst the experts that discussed the impact of big data and artificial intelligence (A.I.) as well as regulation of the IT sector, infrastructure, access to technology, tech integration and skills building.

President of Technology Information Confederation (TICON) Africa, David Gowu formally acknowledged Zambia as a primary member of TICON Africa.

The Confederation was founded in 2022 and is a collective of African ICT professional associations dedicated to advancing technology and innovation.

The TICON Africa Awards celebrate outstanding industry professionals and tech innovators who have boosted both their country’s and Africa’s ICT industry, making contributions that have progressed the technology and communication sectors on the continent and creating new opportunities for its people.
